Cristine Patisserie, Botolph Lane Cambridge

January 05, 2010
Out of all the sandwich places in Cambridge this is one of my favourites.

It has a certain something that is spontaneous and cannot be fabricated to a formula. All sandwiches are made to order, not wilting in pre-sealed plastic. There are also occasional specials to look out for like the soup, or frittata. The place is festooned with cakes of all shapes and sizes hand made by Cristine using local knowledge from her Brazilian roots.

There are lots of Brazilian sweets and biscuits that are most unusual. Definitely worth trying them to inject a bit of spark to a mundane working lunch.

Everything in the shop is home made, and unlike somewhere like Pret A Manger, you as the customer do not feel processed. Buying your lunch is a pleasant personal experience.

The downside to this excellence is that there is always a small queue over lunch time, but I can assure you it is worth the few minutes wait.

Verdict

Please don't go, as too many people will make it harder for me to buy my lunch....
