Cote Bistro, Bridge Street Cambridge

January 05, 2010
The winner of the Good Food Guide 2009 'Best Value Restaurant in Britain' has opened one recently in Cambridge. This chain does not disappoint.

I went there with friends and babies a couple of weeks ago on a recommendation. The first thing that strikes you is the amount of space. It is cool, modern and airy. Plenty of room to stretch out and at the same time giving the illusion of intimacy and privacy.

The fact that it is a small chain probably helps rather than hinders as the tested formula works very well. I started with calamari and moved onto the streak frites. Great presentation and attentive service, all at very affordable prices.

My only gripe was the way they served my espresso. Not in a cup, but a 'rustic' mini glass. Not sure about that.

***Update...my initial enthusiasm was slightly misplaced as more recent visits by myself and friends have been far from good. The food seems too salty in my opinion. Also my friends have had to send two steaks back due to poor quality meat.

Verdict

Simply go there and enjoy solid French cuisine Hit and miss.
