The Hole in the Wall, Little Wilbraham

January 06, 2010
The Hole in the Wall manages to do something many 'foodie' pubs do not. It is still a pub at heart. It does not have the slightly over worked feel of a modern slick sickly 'gastro pub'. There is a decent traditional bar with good ales. I would happily pop in for a pint of Woodford's Wherry. The building is charming in itself, lots of beams, dating back to the 15th century.

Amazingly behind this relaxed unpretentious pub atmosphere lies an extraordinary kitchen. Chris Leeton's food has propelled them into most of the prized guides at one time or another, and keeps popping up in the broadsheets.

I cannot get enough of this place. My last meal there was outstanding. Hands down the most enjoyable three course meal I have had in a pub in Cambridgeshire. What's more this locally sourced food it is not expensive at all. Many pubs out there would charge you more for a second rate microwave meal. It is a thoughtful, balanced British menu, from lighter lunch options to more complex dishes.

Verdict

A 5 minute drive out of Cambridge and you simply must check this place out. I guarantee you will become an addict like me.
