Le Gros Franck, Hills Road Cambridge
January 06, 2010
Le Gros Franck is another one of my lunchtime haunts. It does the best value steak frites in Cambridge (£6.95), which always draws me in.
The cook is an award-winning French chef Franck Parnin.
It looks like a French cafe inside and out (there is outside seating, but as it is next to busy Hills road I prefer to sit indoors). There is not a lot of space upstairs, but more downstairs below street level. I like the hustle and bustle of the place. It feels alive.
It is effortlessly French and has an interesting array dishes, some of which you can view in the large glass servery upstairs. The lunchtime service is very quick, no fuss. Perfect for a business lunch, or a casual cup of coffee and a croissant.
Verdict Slightly out of the town centre, but worth the walk for a lovely lunch. I have not eaten there in the evening. I will report back when I do.
